Sadly, Oregon based Country Coach – founded in 1973 - were one of many motorhome manufacturers forced out of business by the recent recession – their assets were sold in February, 2010.

In October 1997 in Berlin, Guinness declared “Der Bus” to be the biggest RV in the world. The Jumbo Cruiser was the largest articulated bus ever produced by Neoplan. In 2010, they debuted the double deck Skyliner a 505hp, 13.9 meter long, 4.0 meter high coach which will go into production in 2012. The record for the world’s largest articulated single deck bus is claimed by China based Zhejiang Young Man Vehicle Group. Their 25-meter-long “Superliner” has three sections, four axles, five doors, 40 seats and can carry up to 300 passengers.

The prototype Terra Wind Class “A” amphibious RV, manufactured by Cool Amphibious Manufacturers International (CAMI), debuted on ABC’s Good Morning America back in July 2003. Designed by John Giljam, the 35,000lb and 42.5 foot long Terra Wind Motorhome prototype was powered by a single Caterpillar 3126E 330 horse power diesel engine which could achieve speeds of up to 85 mph on land and up to 7 knots in the water.

Vostok Station, Antarctica
The coldest place on earth is considered
to be Antarctica. Only penguins and seals inhabit this place for half a year.
Vostok Station was named after the ship of Fabian von Bellingshausen, an
Antarctic explorer.It is also the biggest desert in the world because it has
very little precipitation. The temperature can go down to -128.6o F or -89.2°C.
Sovetskaia, Antarctica
This used to be a Soviet research station in Antarctica. Its surface
elevation is 3662m and was discovered on February 16, 1958 by the 3rd Soviet
Antarctic Expedition. The temperatures can go down to –124.1o F or -86.7°C.
Oymyakon, Russia
Oymyakon village is located to the east of Yakutia. Around 521 people live in this icy village. The
average temperature is -96°F or -71.2°C during the winter which is nine months.
Oymyakon lies in a bowl between mountains, which traps cold air and hence has
such frigid temperatures
Verkhoyansk, Russia
Verkhoyansk, located in the Yakutia region of Siberia, lies within the
Arctic Circle. The city is the third smallest town in Russia. Its population is
around 1,311 (2010 Census). The temperature, normally, will reach -40 °C (−40
°F) and −69.8 °C (−93.6 °F) at its peak. With Oymyakon, the city is considered
the northern Pole of Cold.
North Ice Station Greenland
Greenland is known to be the coldest place in the western hemisphere. On
January 9th,1954, a temperature of -87 °F (-66 °C) was recorded at
the North ice Research Station in the middle of the Greenland Ice Sheet.
Eismitte, Greenland
The place is translated into English as Mid-Ice. It was explored as part
of an arctic expedition into the inner part of Greenland in August of 1931. In
1930, the coldest temperature to be recorded was -85o F or -64.9°C.
Bulunkul Lake, Tajikistan
The place is an alpine lake in Tajikistan and is the coldest place in
the country and in the whole of central Asia. The lake was the first basin
where fishing was first introduced. The lowest recorded temperature was -81.4o
F or -63°C.
Snag in Yukon, Canada
On the 3rd of February, 1947, Snag, a tiny village in Yukon,
recorded the coldest temperature ever recorded in North America: -81.4°F or
-63°C. This village was established during the Klondike Gold Rush in the late
1800s. The village is located in a valley south of beaver creek.
Mayo, Yukon
This small village is located along the Silver Trail and the Stewart
River, with a population of 248 in 2006. The lowest ever temperatures were
recorded as -79.8o F or -62.1°C.
Prospect Creek, Alaska in United States
On the 23rd of January, 1971, a pipeline camp recorded what is
considered the lowest temperature ever recorded in the United States of
America: -79.8°F/ -62.1°C. Prospect Creek is located just 25 miles southeast
from Bettles, Alaska and 180 miles north of Fairbanks. The city is mostly
uninhabited with little activity.
